Kanwar Inder Singh/ March 31,2023

“This is to inform everyone that Sardar Navjot Singh Sidhu will be released from Patiala Jail tomorrow,” read a post shared on the Navjot Singh Sidhu’s official Twitter handle.

Following the latest development, the Congress leader’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who is battling cancer, today morning shared an emotional tweet, saying “Affirmations are true: made by a sound mind or out of your senses. Navjot’s love for Punjab had driven him beyond the realm of any attachment. In a fit of anger, to teach him a lesson I asked for death. God’s grace was waiting but with a rider. I will give you what you have asked for but not against the will of Supreme Consciousness. So HE left me in between. Each person’s destiny and journey is different. We have no right to question it. The only person who needs correction is our own self. HIS WORLD: HIS LAWS”

Former Member of Parliament, MLA, president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and now a Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is going to be released from Patiala jail on April 1,2023, around 45 days before his official release from the central jail, Patiala. Sidhu had been imprisoned on May 20, 2022 and was serving a one-year sentence in a 1988 road rage case. As per sources, his scheduled release from jail was on May 16,2023

As per sources, “a convict, who serves a duty in prison and maintains good conduct, gets a remission of five days for every month he spends inside prison. On March 31, Sidhu will be entitled to a remission of 45 days, which will pave the way for his early release. He remained in jail for three days in 2007, making him eligible for release on April 1. The provision are mentioned in the Punjab prison rules,”

Soon after he was jailed, the cricketer-turned-politician had been appointed as ‘munshi’ (assistant) to do clerical work in Patiala central jail, as per the jail rules.
