Financial difficulties fail to slow down Punjabi University academic activities-VC

Senate meeting of Punjabi University Patiala was held here today on September 16, 2021 in which various important academics items were approved after a thorough discussion. Addressing the Senate meeting, Dr. Arvind, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala highlighted the significant achievements and activities of the Punjabi University and also discussed the future plans with the Senate members. He said that this university has always been dedicated for the development of Punjabi language, literature and culture and a lot of work is being done on this front with constant and consistent efforts. He said that despite the financial difficulties, the University has never allowed slowing down its academic activities.  He said that we continue to excel in both academics and sports.

Talking about the importance of the Senate, he said that today’s meeting has been held after five years but in future this meeting will be held regularly. He also assured that the convocation would be organized soon.

In another important remark, he said that Punjabi University would surely be among the top few universities in the country if the ranking is taken into the consideration on the basis of the education of poor and weaker sections, girls and rural students.

He said that keeping in view the latest world class academic trends, Punjabi University has launched six five year integrated courses adopting inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach. He said that it is a matter of great pleasure that the university has received a good response for these new courses.

Talking about the future plans, he said that the Punjabi University is drawing up a project on the ecology development with special focus on conservation of flora and fauna of Punjab. Further, It is also proposed to set up a special entrepreneur center with a special focus on skills and self-employment opportunities in rural areas.

Three eminent personalities including Dr. Swaraj Bir Singh, Dr. Arun Grover and Dr. S. S. Marwaha have been co-opted by the Senate. Dr. Swaraj Bir Singh, a prominent playwright and Sahitya Academy Award winner is editor of Punjabi Tribune. Speaking in this meeting, he appreciated the efforts and contribution of Punjabi University in the development of Punjabi language and culture.

Dr. Arun Grover, former Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Chandigarh, said that teaching faculty is always a strength of the University. He also appreciated that under the able leadership of Dr. Arvind, Punjabi University is progressing further. Former Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board, S. S. Marwaha said that the entrepreneurship Centre, being planned by the Punjabi University would definitely be beneficial for the rural and backward sector.

Senate member, S. S. Johal, who is eminent agricultural economist and former Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, specially came to the University for this meeting. Speaking on the occasion, he hailed the uniqueness of Punjabi University and made suggestions on the basis of his experiences during his tenure in the University.

D.P.I. Colleges Paramjit Singh spoke on the problems of colleges in Punjab, their improvement, the role of universities in this regard.
