FIR registered against 48 farmers for stubble burning-DC Bathinda

Deputy Commissioner B. Srinivasan said that joint action teams are being taken to prevent the burning of paddy straw and residue in the district. So far, 298 fires have been fined 9 lakh 58 thousand five hundred rupees for the burning of paddy straw and residue in the district. Apart from this, FIRs have also been registered against 48 farmers who set fire to the paddy straw and residue. At the same time, without SMS 15 Combine owners have been fined with Rs 30 lakhs. The police department was asked to confiscate these combines.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the joint teams of different departments to take strict action to prevent the burning of paddy straw and residue at his office. He further gave the the strict directions that whatever is the view of  village panchayats, If any of the farmer set the fire, take the required action immediately and register the FIR against him. In addition, if the government officials or employees with a farming background set fire to the paddy straw and residue, then action must be taken against them as per the rules.

Reviewing the daily activities which are being done to prevent the burning of paddy straw in the district, he stated that it is in compliance with the directions of the state government and the guidelines given by the Punjab Pollution Control Board to protect the environment from pollution. The district administration is making special efforts to prevent farmers from setting fire to paddy straw and residual residue. Under this, 25 joint teams of different departments from village level to block level have been appointed. These teams are constantly being monitored to prevent the straw from being set on fire.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also informed that till now the 48 FIRs have been registered against thr farmers in this context. Meanwhile, he also made appeal to the farmers not to set fire to paddy veins and residual as the environmental health is declining rapidly.
