Fire at RGMC: Is Rajindra Gymkhana Mahindra Club management sluggish towards the safety of its members?

Today evening a fire broke out at one of the party hall, restaurant building in historic Rajindra Gymkhana Mahindra Club, Patiala.
As per fire brigade officials, “they have received a call at around 5:25 pm from Vipin Sharma, a club member. They immediately sent three fire tenders. The fire spread in minutes due to decorative lights, materials but we controlled the fire from spreading it further. ”
As per reports, it is alleged that the club doesn’t have Fire safety NOC from the fire department.
An official of the fire department on the condition of anonymity said “the department had issued a no objection certificate (NOC) to the Rajindra Gymkhana and Mahendra Club, Patiala around 2-3 years back. But after that, no certificate is issued. Rest had they applied or not, will be clear on Monday. As per norms, they (club) have to get it renewed it every year.”
“Fire NOC issued by the respective state fire service verifies that a building is resistant or unlikely to observe any fire related accidents” added an official of the Punjab Fire Service department.

Another official of the fire department said “in 2022 the department had issued a notice the club for not taking the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the department. Later, NOC was issued after the club completed the formalities and installed the required pumps, cylinders, CO2, ABC cylinders, water connection etc. for one year. As per norms, they have to take it on yearly basis.”
A club member said “ it’s very sad that the management has not taken the mandatory permissions. They are playing with the safety, lives of the club members. What is the use of installing fire safety equipment’s when they are not able to work on time?.”
President of the RGMC Deepak Kampani said “everything is fine. The fire brigade department has acted swiftly and controlled the fire immediately. There is no casualty as the hall was empty and no one was there.” When questioned about the Fire Department NOC, he said “the club has the NOC. You can come tomorrow and check it.”
As per initial information, a short circuit in the AC caused fire. The Gymkhana club staff was preparing for an evening party when this incident happened.The club authorities have closed the club till further orders.
