Firebrand SAD leader on bail summoned by SIT for investigation

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), that was formed to probe the case registered against firebrand leader of shiromani akali dal Bikram Majithia under sections 25 (allowing premises, etc., to be used for commission of an offence) , 27A (consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance) and 29 (Whoever abets, or is a party to a criminal conspiracy to commit, an offence punishable under this Chapter, shall, whether such offence be or be not committed in consequence of such abetment or in pursuance of such criminal conspiracy, and notwithstanding anything contained in section 116 of the Indian Penal Code ) of NDPS Act in state crime police station Phase 4 Mohali.
Majithia has been asked to present himself at Patiala in the office of ADGP/Chairman of SIT at 11 AM on December 18, 2023.
The Punjab government had reconstituted the special investigation team (SIT) probing a drugs case against Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia in May 2023. ADGP , Patiala (earlier Inspector general (IG)) Mukhvinder Singh Chhina is now heading the SIT. He replaced Rahul S, deputy inspector general (DIG) as SIT head to probe a drugs case against Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
Firebrand SAD leader on bail summoned by SIT for investigation. In August 2022,A Punjab and Haryana high court (HC) bench had granted bail to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a 2021 drugs case.
The HC bench of justice MS Ramachandra Rao and justice Sureshwar Thakur, while allowing the May 23 plea from Majithia, had observed that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the Akali leader was not guilty of the offences charged against him and that he was not likely to commit such offences while on bail.
