First International Critical Care Training held in Pediatrics Ward of Govt Medical College Patiala

Department of Pediatrics GMC Patiala organized a Pediatrics Fundamental Critical Care Support Course (PFCCS) at MCH Building GMC Patiala. This is one of the kind courses unique as it is directly conducted by Society of Critical Care USA. The course is uniquely designed for training doctors in management of critically sick child. The time essence in any severe illness.
This international course is from USA and is conducted worldwide. The course has a fee of 135 US Dollar per participant but with the efforts of Dr Kundan Mittal, the course consultant, the Society allowed the course for free for doctors of GMC.
Dr Kundan Mittal, Senior Professor and Head, Pediatric Intensive care at PGIMS Rohtak is the course consultant. He brought the course to India in 2006 and since then has conducted nearly 200 such courses in India.
Course Director Dr Prashant Kumar, Professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care PGIMS Rohtak informed that the standard of course is same all over the world. So, our participants are getting international course directly at their hospital. The course is designed to train doctors in early identification and management of sick child which result in better outcome.

Dr Harshindar Kaur, Senior Professor, Pediatrics GMC Patiala organized the course here and discussed management of shock in critically ill children. She thanked Dr Kundan and Dr Prashant for choosing GMC Patiala as center to conduct this course. She extended special gratitude to them for bringing this course free for doctors of GMC as high cost of these courses always remain a challenge to us.
Dr Baljinder Kaur, Professor and HOD, Pediatrics GMC Patiala talked about importance of transport of critically ill child and how it can be improved upon. She thanked the hospital authorities for the unconditional support extended to them.
Dr Harshindar Kaur expressed confidence that attending this PFCCS course will help GMC Pediatrics residents increase their efficiency and provide improved patient care. The course involves the participants in all learning processes. The personalized discussion and hands on training help improve the skills which will benefit the poor patients coming to RHP from periphery.
Main key features are about recognition of sick child, oxygen delivery, management of low BP, optimized use of drugs of sedation and pain relief. Also, all participants are allowed to learn oxygen and use of ventilator by practice as per the need of patients.
