First time at GOMCO -welcome ceremony organised for the newly joined faculty

A welcome ceremony was organised for the newly joined faculty (Associate Professors, Assistant Professors & senior residents) in the prestigious Govt. Medical College, Patiala. In a formal ceremony held for the first time in the history of the college, they were welcomed by the Principal Dr. K.K Aggarwal.
He advised them to be gentle and humble to the patients & be a healer. He also stressed on the need of research work in the college & encouraged them for the same. Dr.Avnish Kumar, Director Research & Medical Education was Guest of Honour. He, while addressing the new faculty pointed out that in order to be teacher of medicine, one must be a good student always. He further assured them of all the help at the level of Directorate.
The new arrivals were administered the Hippocratic Oath by Dr Rajan Singla, Professor Anatomy, GMC Patiala. Gurinderjit Singh Bhatia, Advocate, threw light on the topic, the Scheme for the Legal Services to Disaster victims through Legal Services authorities. The other dignitaries present were Dr.Akashdeep Aggarwal, Joint-Director Research & Medical Education Mohali, Dr.Ashwani Kumar, Medical Superintendent Rajindra Hospital Patiala and Dr.Vishal Chopra, Deputy Medical Superintendent T.B.Hospital Patiala.

It started as a 500 bedded hospital and presently it houses 1009 bedded in Rajendra Hospital Patiala and 121 bedded in T.B.Hospital,Patiala. The T.B.Hospital, Patiala has been designated as Zonal Task ForceCentre of North India for involvement of Medical Colleges in RNTCP. TheHospital is also working as State T.B.Training and Demonstration Centre for theState of Punjab and U.T.
Apart from Basic/Clinical departments some super specialty departments are also functioning. Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, ICCU arefunctioning in Medicine Deptt. and Urology, Pediatrics, Surgery, PlasticSurgery, I.C.U are also functional. Psychiatry Deptt.of this Institution has been upgraded. In addition to itDe-addiction Centre, ART Centre /EDUSET, Telemedicine, I.T.Cell are alsofunctional.
