The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday has apprehended Inspector Sushil Kumar, Food and Civil Supplies Department Punjab, posted at Pathankot for misappropriation of Wheat stock allotted by the Government under various welfare schemes.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said during and enquiry it was found that the above mentioned accused had misappropriated Wheat stock totalling to more than 2079 Quintals, thereby causing financial loss of lakhs of rupees to the state exchequer. He further informed that the said accused has been arrested registered a FIR No. 14 under sections 13(1), 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and under section 409 of IPC against the accused at VB police station Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation was under progress, he said.
In another case, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign, on Wednesday nabbed Layak Ahmed, Executive Officer, Punjab Wakf Board, posted at Bathinda red handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said this case has been registered against the above said official on the complaint of Narinder Kumar Monga, a resident Gidderbaha in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, who is now residing at Dhakoli, Zirakpur.
Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said Wakf Board official has demanded Rs 50,000 as a bribe in lieu of providing land on lease in Bathinda and agreed to take Rs 20,000 as advance money besides two blank cheques from the complainant.

The spokesperson further added that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team has laid a trap in which the said accused has been arrested red handed while accepting first instalment of bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB team has also recovered two blank cheques from him which were taken from the complainant.
In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the above mentioned revenue official at VB police station Bathinda range. He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation in this case was under progress, he informed.
