In a first of its kind, a mother and his son are going to get Independence Day State Award on the same platform from the chief minister at a state level function.
This is going to happen in Punjab on August 15,2024 when the Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann is going to honour noted theatre artist Sunita Sabharwal and his son a PPS officer, AIG Elections Cell Vikas Sabharwal at a State Level Independence Day function at Jalandhar.
Sunita Sabharwal, 87 years old, a resident of Patiala is amongst the 13 eminent personalities who are going to get State Award for making valuable contributions in various fields.
Vikas Sabharwal is among 18 officers/officials, who have been selected for the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty.
For the first time any Mother-Son duo to get Independence Day State Award from CM . Sunita Sabharwal is a wife of Padma Shri Awardee Pran Sabharwal and Vikas Sabharwal, PPS is son of Pran sabharwal and Sunita Sabharwal.
Sunita Sabharwal had a long association with All India Radio and Doordarshan as an actor and writer. She has taught, directed and performed extensively. She had organized 42 Annual Production-Oriented Theatre Workshops and Acting Classes and has trained above 2500 participants in theatre arts and character building task.
She is a recipient of numerous awards, titles, felicitations in India and abroad. Sunita was honoured with Punjab Govt. Independence Day Parman Patra Awards 2018 in recognition of her distinguished and exceptional services in theatre and drama.
Vikas Sabharwal, PPS has joined Punjab Police in February 1994. He is a post graduate in arts and has completed L.LB degree. He is also an outstanding sportsperson and has won many laurels in the field of Gymnastics.
He remained posted in various districts of Punjab as Inspector and promoted as DSP in 2011 and remained posted in various field units, district police. He was awarded with DGP , Commendation Disc for his dedication to duty. He is promoted to SP rank in 2019 and remained posted on key field posts, in vigilance bureau.
93-year-old Pran sabharwal an eminent theatre artiste and director, was awarded the Padma Shri awrad from Punjab for their outstanding contribution in the field of art, on this year Republic Day function.
