For the first time in the AAP government’s tenure, PPSC gets two members

Finally, Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government has appointed two members of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) in it’s around three and a half years rule in Punjab.

As per available information, former judicial officer Sanjay Garg and Sarabjit Singh Dhaliwal have been chosen as members of Punjab Public Service Commission. Governor of Punjab Gulab Chand Kataria will administer the oath of office to the newly selected two members- former judicial officer Sanjay Garg and Sarabjit Singh Dhaliwal on September 12,2025.

At present only Major General Vinayak Saini, SM, VSM (Retd) is looking after the working of PPSC as its chairman.

There is a provision of 5 persons to be appointed as members of PPSC after reducing the number from 10. But, till date no member is appointed by the present government in its three and half year tenure. All the members were appointed during the tenure of Capt Amarinder Singh’s tenure. With these two appointments, three posts of members still remain vacant.

The lone and last member Harmohan Kaur Sandhu (Babbu Tir) left the commission after her six years tenure ended on August 19, 2025.

After taking the reins of the state, Bhagwant Mann led Punjab govt had approved the reducing of the strength of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) from 10 to five. Giving clarification, Mann had said that the salaries, perks and other emoluments of these 10 members are putting an undue burden on the state exchequer and that the reduction is being done to make the Commission’s functioning cost-effective.
