Educational Multimedia Research Centre(EMRC) Patiala has achieved a historic milestone by securing approval for the first-ever MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in the Punjabi language. The MOOC proposal of Dr. Jasbir Singh, Head of the Department of History at Panjab University, Chandigarh, has been approved by CEC. Titled Understanding Punjab (1901-47), the MOOC will be developed at EMRC Patiala. It is a four-credit course comprising 40 modules and will be offered through the SWAYAM portal.
Daljit Ami, Director of EMRC, described this as a significant achievement in the history of EMRC Patiala and a major step toward creating digital educational content in Punjabi. He shared that having studied at Panjab University himself and now working at EMRC, located at Punjabi University, Patiala, he sees this as a great collaborative effort. He emphasized that creating high-quality content in Punjabi will greatly benefit students pursuing higher education in the language.Daljit Ami further shared that while EMRC has previously developed MOOCs in English and Hindi, this approval marks an important diversification of its work. He added that, being based in Punjab, EMRC had long aspired to develop digital content in the Punjabi language, and this initiative is a realization of that vision.

Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Prof. Karmjit Singh, who has taught at Panjab University for nearly three decades, congratulated both institutions. He stressed that digital education is the way forward and that making digital content available in Punjabi is essential.
