Forensic medicine specialists recruitment; govt fulfilled demand of experts-PAFMAT

It is for the first time in the history of the state Health and Family Welfare Department that 31 posts of specialist medical officers in the specialty of Forensic Medicine have been created and are being filled shortly by conducting walk in interview of the eligible candidates.
Punjab Academy of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (PAFMAT) a state body of forensic medicine specialists and medicolegal experts , has welcomed the decision of the state health department for creation of the posts of forensic medicine specialists in the state as a first in North India.
Thanking the Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, Principal secretary Health and Family Welfare Punjab Hussan Lal (IAS) and Director Health Services Punjab Dr. Gurinder Bir Singh, president of PAFMAT Dr DS Bhullar (National Fellowship Awardee-IAFM) said this was a long pending demand of the forensic medicine experts in Punjab and fulfilment of the same indicates the visionary approach of the health department in the disbursement of justice in criminal cases pertaining to post-mortem and medico legal examination services.
It will also stop exodus of the forensic medicine experts from the state and more undergraduate doctors will be attracted to join post graduation in the specialty of forensic medicine with subsequent easing of the post-mortem and Medicolegal workload in state medical colleges and with more job opportunities as district forensic medicine experts, said Bhullar.

The Academy (PAFMAT) also appeals to the Health Minister Punjab to designate one of these posts as State Chemical Examiner of the Deputy Director level and at least three posts as assistant state chemical examiners for running the functions of the only state chemical laboratory under the direct supervision of forensic medicine experts.
