Former Punjab bureaucrat shines in India Today 100 Women 2023 list

Former Punjab cadre IAS officer, Ravneet Kaur has got the honour to be listed among the 100 named in India Today’s’ annual list of ‘The Power of 100’ on India’s Most Powerful Women’.

The list includes women achievers across the domains of politics, business, science, arts, entertainment, sports, education, law , defence who are showing what women’s empowerment looks like.

Ravneet Kaur has made it to the list for the first time, ranking at number 60. This is the 60-year-old former bureaucrat’s rocking entry in the top 100 list.

As per ‘India Today’, Ravneet Kaur has taken a number of steps to clear pending cases as CCI head and is looking into alleged unfair business practices by technology giants.’

Former Punjab bureaucrat shines in India Today 100 Women 2023 list. Ravneet Kaur is the first woman to head the country’s chief national competition regulator, which had been operating without a full-time chairperson since October last year. In May 2023 she created the history by becoming the first woman to head the commission.

Ravneet Kaur (60) is the second woman to serve in an ‘economic regulator’ role after Madhabi Puri Buch, who was appointed chairperson of the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) last year.

Ravneet Kaur a Punjab cadre 1988 batch officer was to officially retire in October 2023, but before her retirement as IAS he is appointed as the first woman chairperson of Competition Commission of India (CCI) on May 2023.

Ravneet Kaur has held several key positions including that of first woman chairman of India Tourism Development Corporation (2017-2019), joint secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (2015-2017).

In her almost 34 years of service, Ravneet Kaur has served multiple positions some of which include Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of Punjab Communications Limited., Chairperson and Managing Director, Exim Bank; Chairperson and Managing Director of India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd., Additional Managing Director of Markfed, Managing Director, PSIDC; Managing Director, Punsup, special chief secretary in the Punjab government’s agriculture and cooperation departments in Chandigarh.

Hailing from Chandigarh, Kaur’s first stint in the civil services was in the capacity of a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Punjab’s Rajpura in 1990.

She has a Master’s degree in economics and public economic management from Panjab University, and is a recipient of the 1991 Census Silver Medal, awarded to her for her government service. In 2019, she was also felicitated by the Institute of South Asian Women (ISAW) with its Women Achievers Award.
