“France nationwide ban on mobile phones in schools with a hope to encourage students to be more active. Banning of mobile phones in schools will reduce distraction, bullying” said an official. The ban will help limit the spread of violent and pornographic content among children and would improve discipline among France’s millions of schoolchildren.
French President Emmanuel Macron’s, pledge to ban was brought in under a law passed in July which also push out tablets and smart watches from France primary and junior high schools.
Children will be allowed to bring their phones to school, but not allowed to get them out at any time until they leave, even during breaks. It will apply to all pupils from the time they start school at age of six – up to about 15 when they start secondary school.
Jean-Michel Blanquer, the French education minister, has already suggested schools could install lockers for phones, though many city centre schools have little room for them. He further said that “It’s good that children are not too often, or even at all, in front of a screen before the age of seven.”
Education officials are now studying how the mobile ban can be put into effect.
