GNDU Budget Estimates for year 2018-19 approved

The Senate and Syndicate of the Guru Nanak Dev University approved the Budget Estimates of 467 Crore 32 Lac and 17 thousand for the year 2018-19.  University would spend 53.70 percent amount on further improvement in Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education. It was specially mentioned that this year also more financial assistance in form of scholarships will be provided to deserving students.

Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor presided over both the meetings and Prof. Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar presented the agenda in both the meetings. The members congtratulated Prof. Sandhu and University Administration for presenting balanced budget.

During financial year 2017-18, the University has spent Rs. 4 crores 55 lac 79 thousand to help the economically backward and intelligent students in form of fee concessions,Rs. 10 lac and 76 thousand to help the handicapped students in the form of scholarships.

During this financial year University would spend 53.70 percent of the total budget on Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education. Similarly, 13.80 percent would be spent on non-teaching departments, 10.58 percent on general administration, 4.23 percent on conduct of examinations, 13.33 percent on miscellaneous (teaching,non-teaching and others) and 4.36 percent would be spent on construction purposes.

GNDU Budget Estimates for year 2018-19 approved

Grants of 5 crore were received from various funding agencies and schemes by teachers of various departments during 2017-18. As many as 500 research scholars are conducting research in various subjects with the grant received from various funding agencies under different schemes. A grant of Rs. 26 Lacs 74 Thousands has been received to build on SC Boys Hostel under Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatrawas Yojana by Ministry of Social justice and Empowerment, New Delhi. Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi has also sanctioned Rs. 6 Crore 18 Lac under DST, Purse Programme 2nd Phase. Similarly, Chemistry Department also received Rs. 2 Crore 95 Lac and Pharmaceutical Department received Rs. 92 Lac under DST, FIST Programme from Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. University Grants Commission, New Delhi under CPEPA Scheme also sanctioned grant of Rs. 3 Crore 7 Lac and 50 Thousand for Life Sciences Department. Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has already sanctioned “MYAS-GNDU” Centre for Sports Sciences” with a support of Rs. 25 crores for the period of five years to the University. Under this scheme grant of Rs. 1.80  Crore has already been received. MHRD, New Delhi has approved Rs. 4.28 Crore for Faculty Development Centre in the University.

Prof. Sandhu also informed the house about the achievements of the University in the field of research, education, culture, sports and excellent campus placements during this year.
