GNDU faculty awarded with the prestigious Humboldt Fellowship

Dr.Venus Singh Mithu, an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers. Fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Foundation are considered to be among the most prestigious and generous awards in academic circles. Vice-chancellor GNDU Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Dean academic affairs Prof. Hardeep Singh, Registrar GNDU Prof. KS Kahlon, and Director of Research Prof. Renu Bhardwaj congratulated Dr. Mithu on his excellent academic achievement.

This highly competitive fellowship allows qualified scientists working at least at the level of Assistant Professor to spend extended periods of research in Germany. The alumni network is the foundation’s greatest asset, comprising over 26,000 Humboldtians in more than 130 countries, including 50 Nobel laureates.

Under this fellowship, Dr. Mithu will be working at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Germany for 18 months and focus on studying the cause of Type 2 diabetes mellitus using cutting-edge structural biology tools. “Dr. Mithu’s research is likely to have a significant impact in developing preventive measures against Type 2 diabetes which is an escalating public health problem worldwide,” said Dr. Sukhprit Singh, HoD Chemistry, GNDU while congratulating the researcher.

GNDU faculty awarded with the prestigious Humboldt Fellowship. In addition to the Humboldt fellowship, Dr. Mithu has also been awarded other international fellowships in the past namely from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2017 and the Max Planck Society, Germany in 2020.
