GNDU Syndicate & Senate takes major decisions
Amritsar – The Syndicate & Senate meetings of the Guru Nanak Dev University were held in the Syndicate Room & Senate Hall of the University respectively. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu presided over both the meetings while Registrar Prof. K.S. Kahlon presented the agenda. Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and members of Syndicate and Senate were present to discuss various issues.
Syndicate approved the decision to establish the National Academic Depository (NAD) Cell at Guru Nanak Dev University. The vision of National Academic Depository (NAD) is born out of an initiative to provide an online storehouse of all academic awards. National Academic Depository (NAD) is a 24X7 online storehouse of all academic awards viz. certificates, diplomas, degrees, mark-sheets etc. duly digitized and lodged by academic institutions/ boards/eligibility assessment bodies. NAD not only ensures easy access to and retrieval of an academic award but also validates and guarantees its authenticity and safe storage.
The University has also decided to provide space for PHD Chamber Office in University campus. With the establishment of this Chamber, the working relationship and familirity between the research group and the chamber will also be improve. University will also open Souvenir Shop in the Facilitation Centre of the University, to provide different items like T-Shirts, Hand Bags, Tea Mugs and other stationary items with University logo at very marginal rates with ‘No Profit No Loss’ basis. University plans to introduce new courses in the field of agriculture.
Scheme for designing, approval & uploading/publishing of study learning material for courses under Open & Distance Learning (ODL) mode for session 2018-19 has also been approved in the meetings. Approval to 09 Ph.D Degrees has also been done.
The members of syndicate and Senate appreciated the various development activities including student-centric activities such as Clubs, Movies Gallery, Facilitation centre, Swimming pool, Gymnasium, Bi-cycles, Upgrdation of dining halls, Repair of washrooms, Proposed digital library, Hostels: Boys 1 and Girls 1. In the Faculty Centric activities, Promotions in CAS, Appointment of some new teachers, Given promotions as per Modalities and purely as per UGC norms, Centralized Purchase committee, Rationalization of Space, Teachers Mentors of clubs, H-Index of Research, Field weighted citation impact, Innovation & Development Board. Regarding Infrastructure, Rooftap Solar Energy Plants installed in 13 buildings, Upgradation of swimming pool, Plantation, Auditorium Upgradation started 5 Crores for a new auditorium, Creation of Convention centre, Boom barriers for traffic regulation, Vehicle Free zone- Two parking lots, Girls security – Raising the Boundry wall, Upgradation of reading room, International Boys and Girls Hostel, Working women hostel for Ph.D. Scholars, Bane marries for Food disbursal in hostels and Upgradation of University Guest House.
Prof. Sandhu thanked the syndics and exhorted all to play pro-active role in the further progress of the University.
