GNDU Vice Chancellor unfurled the National Flag
Amritsar-On the celebrations of Independence Day, Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University unfurled the National Flag at Guest House Lawns of the University. A large number of teachers, employees and students celebrated this day with great enthusiasm.
Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs welcomed the guests and gave an account of the struggle for independence. He highlighted the sacrifices made by Indians during the freedom struggle and he said that even today sacrifices are being made by our armed personnel to maintain the independence and integrity of the Country. He saluted the martyrs who have laid down their lives for the Country. Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Registrar presented vote of thanks. The students of the Music Department of the University presented patriotic songs to mark the occasion.
While congratulating the University fraternity on the eve of 72nd Independence Day, Prof. Sandhu said that we need to work hard with dedication to uplift the University in the field of higher education and face international challenges. He said that this day reminds us of commitment to do our duty with complete dedication and help the society to progress. He informed that the University has been able to get a grant of Rs 107 crore due to its recognition as category-1 University. Prof. Sandhu was addressing the students, faculty and employees here today after unfurling the tri-color near the guest house lawns at University campus.
He said that he wishes to see this University as top ranking University in the fields of academic, sports and culture not only in India but at International level. He also detailed the work done and initiated by him during his tenure since last year. He shared his future vision and plans for the coming years and asked everyone for cooperation for achieving these plans.
He said that there is an increase in students admission by 30 percent which has been possible by starting new courses. He said that due to hard work of sports personnel, coaches and students, the University has emerged as the most prominent claimant of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy – a prestigious sports award of the country. He further added that efforts are being made to establish a School of Education, a State of Art Auditorium and modernization of student laboratories.
