GNDU’s another pro-student initiative: signs MOU with Airports Authority of India (AAI) for Student Internship Program

The Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) of Amritsar entered a MoU with the Airports Authority of India, under the aegis of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. This partnership marks a significant step towards enriching educational experiences for students of the university through an innovative Student Internship Program.

The decision to formalize this collaboration was reached during a meeting between Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu Vice Chancellor and  V.K. Seth Airport Director, Airports Authority of India, Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar. Prof Palwinder Sing, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof K.S. Kahlon, Registrar, Sh Suman Kumar Das, Senior General Manager, Airports Authority of India, Amritsar, Prof Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi Dean Students, Welfare and Dr Amit Chopra, Director Placements GNDU were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu reiterated the University’s commitment to equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the dynamic field of civil aviation. He emphasized that The MoU between Guru Nanak Dev University and the Airports Authority of India aims to provide students with invaluable first-hand exposure to the intricacies of airport operations and the diverse facets of civil aviation. As part of this initiative, students will have the opportunity to participate in live demonstrations of airport projects and activities, as well as engage in two to five days of familiarization visits and workshops. Furthermore, they will be eligible for internships lasting four to twenty weeks at airports and regional corporate offices.

Commenting on the ‘strategic partnership’,  V.K. Seth said a skilled workforce is required to improve airport infrastructure across the country. “As we gear up for a new civil aviation policy, for more new airports, we will have to source a skilled workforce. Any vibrant programme needs a skilled workforce. This strategic partnership will certainly help us prepare that workforce right now,” he said. At AAI we are firmly committed to developing the aerospace ecosystem in India. We continue to invest in education and skill development that will help in the creation of a competent workforce in the country. This MoU will harness AAI expertise and GNDU’s capabilities in education, research and training to nurture the next generation of technology leaders and will unlock the potential of the fast-evolving aerospace landscape in the country.”

Prof Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, stated, “GNDU has been relentlessly pursuing its vision to support innovation, research, and entrepreneurial activities in technology-based fields, and Aerospace is one of the key thrust areas in this endeavour. The primary aim of this collaboration is to ignite passion for civil aviation among students by supplementing theoretical knowledge with practical operational experience, providing exposure to both STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and non-STEM domains within civil aviation. Additionally, this MoU will offer students opportunities to work on short-duration projects related to civil aviation.“The programme has been designed to give students first-hand experience of the functioning of the airports in particular and the aviation industry at large, apart from igniting passion in them for furthering their interests. The idea behind this initiative is to bring students from institutes to explore their field of interest, providing them with industry experience through participation in project implementation at airports.

Furthermore, Das of AAI highlighted the benefits of the programme during his address, emphasizing how the internship will not only familiarize the students with how an airport operates but will also “spark passion for further exploration within the aviation industry.”
