The Government of Punjab (GoP) is consistent in recruiting the technical personnels in its professional departments for the all-round planned development of the towns, cities, and villages.  In the selection list released by the Punjab Public Service Commission, as many as 18 graduates of Guru Ramdas School of Planning of Guru Nanak Dev University out of 20, have been selected for the post of Assistant Town Planner in the Town and Country Planning Department of Government of Punjab, said Prof. Ashwani Luthra, Head of Guru Ramdas School of Planning of the University.

He extended his well wishes to the newly selected Assistant Town planners. He said that planning is an outshining discipline in the fast-urbanizing world and there would be high demand of Urban, Regional, Infrastructure, and Transport Planners in the times to come. He congratulated the faculty of the School for training the students with high quality teaching and state-of-the-art infrastructure at the University. The faculty of the School extends heart felt congratulations to all the successful candidates and wish to perform the best in the interview to get final selection.

Prof. Luthra said that more than fifty years old Guru Ramdas School of Planning (GRDSP) of Guru Nanak Dev University is a premier institute of North India to train the students in the Urban and Regional Planning discipline. Its graduates have and have been working at higher positions in the public as well as private sectors. Many of them have retired as Chief Town Planners or Senior Town Planners from the Town and Country Planning Departments, Municipal Corporations, and Improvement Trusts of different states of India apart from many other departments related to environment, transport, tourism, real estate development, etc. It graduates are positioned at high positions overseas as well.

He expressed that the sincere and consistent efforts of the faculty of the university have brought laurels to glorify its achievements. He cited that Guru Nanak Dev University is the only multi-specialty State University of Northern Region (Jammu, Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh) to attain such remarkable achievements. He said that all-round efforts have been made in the last eight years to build state-of-the-art infrastructure to upscale the quality academics, research, and cocurricular activities to earn name and fame at the national and international levels. The quality research has improved the H-index of the University from 64 to 150 with top 10 percent highly cited papers in Scopus, he added. In recent international rankings, GNDU is placed among the top 23% of the universities worldwide in the World Rankings for Best Value Universities for International Students by the Study Abroad Aide. Also, the Centre for World University Ranking has ranked GNDU among the top 9.3% universities of the world in 2024. NAAC has accredited GNDU with CGPA of 3.85 on 4 point scale at “A++” grade (highest level) and UGC has conferred it with “University with Potential for Excellence” status. The University’s unmatching achievements in sports and cultural events are visible at the national and international erena, which makes GNDU very popular across the geographies, he added.
