National Education Policy(NEP) 2020 is bringing reforms in Indian Education System in various facets. One of the major reformations introduced is to bring Bharatiya Bhasha in different domains of education. Government of India, Ministry of Education is playing big role in the promotion and development of Bharatiya Bhasha using digital technology platform and ICT Tools. In this context, “Technology & Bharatiya Bhasha Summit” shall be held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), in New Delhi on 30th September 2023 and 1st October 2023 along with launch of “75 days’ Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav” during the Inaugural session on 30th September 2023. The theme of the summit is Technology & Bharatiya Bhasha Summit with emphasis on “Technology FOR Bharatiya Bhasha, Technology IN Bharatiya Bhasha and Technology THROUGH Bhartiya Bhasha”.

Union Minister of Education and other distinguished dignitaries will participate in the summit. The Central institute of Indian Languages (CllL), Mysore in collaboration with

University Grants Commission (UGC), All India council for Technical Education (AICTE),National Education Technology Forum(NETF), Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti(BBS), National council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) and National Council for Teacher Education are organising the event.

The summit programme will include panel discussions, poster sessions, and exhibitions.

Around 1000 enthusiastic participants are expected to attend the event. A public pavilion is also proposed to be set up to showcase Bharatiya Bhasha technology products, its applications by industries, government organizations and start-ups.

GoI is playing big role in promoting and developing Bharatiya Bhasha using digital technology platform and ICT Tools- Dr Vishal Goyal said Punjabi University Patiala being the pioneer in the research area of Natural Language Processing and Technology Development for Differently Abled Persons, number of Bharatiya Bhasha technologies has been developed at Punjabi University naming a few – Akhar: An Indic Word Processor, Intelligent Font Convertor, Punjabi e-Learning, various Machine Translation and Transliteration System from Bharatiya to Bharatiya Bhasha Like Hindi, Punjabi, English, Sindhi, Urdu etc, OCRs for various Bharatiya Bhasha Like Gurmukhi, Sidhi, Hindi, Kashmiri, Urdu etc., Punjabi and Hindi Grammar Checker, Punjabi Text Summarizer, Number of NLP tools have developed like Punjabi Morphological Analyzer and Generator, Part of Speech Tagger, Named Entity Recognition etc.

Punjabi University has developed to the best knowledge, first working Automatic English to Indian Sign language Synthetic Animation Videos which is capable of translating Simplae, Complex and Compound English sentences into ISL adhering to ISL grammar rules, parsing, chunking etc.

Shodhmapak: Plagiarism Detection Tool for Indian Languages with special focus in Hindi and Punjabi have been developed using Govt of India, MeitY funding. This is similar to popular plagiarism detection tools like Ouriginal, Turnitin, iThenticate etc.

Punjabi University Patiala has collaborated with BlueAves E-health Services Ltd for making a marketable Plagiarism detection tool for all Bharatiya Bhasha. Similarly, collaboration has been done with Sabudh Foundation to develop open source library for various tools of Gurmukhi. It is available on Panjabi.ai.

Punjabi University

Punjabi University Patiala has submitted number of their products to showcase during the summit. It is a big platform to display your research product related to these domain. Dr. Vishal Goyal, Professor, Department of Computer Science advised all industries and professors in various Universities and research laboratories to submit their entries for this summit which is an important and big platform. In UGC letter, it has been requested to all institutions to nominate (register at https://technology-bharatiya.aicte-india.org) atleast two faculty members, one research scholar and one student in the relevant area, to participate as delegate from their institution in the summit. This summit shall provide rich experience and critical exposure to the vision of the Government enabling Bharatiya Bhasha Technology in Software and Hardware that are developed specifically for the Bharatiya Bhasha and have potential to reach all sections of the society in their respective Bhasha.

This would also give fillip to the objective of Vocal for Local and encourage industries and start-ups to actively engage in promotion of Bharatiya Bhasha within the sphere of the digital economy.
