Govt accepts Powercom Engineers’, Employees key demand, revokes suspension of top PSPCL engineer

Punjab government has revoked the suspension of Harish Sharma, Chief Engineer of the Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant, Ropar,on Monday. Sharma was suspended in the first week of November 2025, get reinstatement orders after more than four months.

As per the orders issued on March 16, “The board, after considering the details given in the agenda, the report of the committee formed to examine the matter, the past service of Er. Harish Kumar Sharma and that he is to retire shortly, Alok Shekhar, IAS Nominee Director, and all the Directors present along with the Special Secretary Finance unanimously decided to revoke the suspension of Er. Harish Kumar Sharma, CE (Code No.104684).The board then allowed Dy.CE/Technical to proceed immediately and the requisite order be issued without waiting for minutes, and then passed the following resolution: resolved that the suspension of Er. Harish Kumar Sharma, CE (Code No. 104684), is hereby revoked”.

Suspension orders of Sharma cited a sharp difference in power generation costs between government-run and private thermal plants despite coal being sourced from PSPCL’s own Pachhwara coal mine, causing losses of several crores to the corporation.

PSEB Engineer Association, retired engineers’ had also raised the issue of alleged illegal suspension with the chief minister, state government.

Even at that time 1996-batch IAS officer Ajoy Kumar Sinha was also removed from the posts of CMD and secretary (power) and till his retirement, no charge was given to him.
