Govt, police atrocities: 4 hours ‘Rail Roko’ protest announced by farmers’ in Punjab; Tikait extended support to farmers

Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) State president (Ugrahan) Joginder Singh Ugrahan has announced Rail Roko protest across Punjab from 12 noon to 4 pm on Feb 15 against alleged police and government atrocities on farmers at Haryana border, heading to Delhi.

Notably, as farmers approached the barricades near the Shambhu border,Khanuri border the police responded by firing tear gas shells. A warning has been issued by the police to stay away from the barricades.

Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher Mazdoor, while addressing mediapersons, said nearly 100 injured farmers were admitted to hospitals after clashes at the Shambhu Border. Around 30 persons had been injured at Khanouri Border. Rubber bullets, plastic pellets, and SRL rounds had been used against the farmers, and excessive force was being employed, he added.

As per reports, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait on Tuesday extended his support for the protesting farmers and said that if the government tried to create problems for these farmers then he is not far from them and could join the protest anytime.
