Govt school students visited computer science department of Punjabi University, get a glimpse of opportunities ahead

Students of Govt. Sr. Sec Smart School, Mansurpur, Chhintawala School visited Department of Computer Science, Punjabi University Patiala for visit as per the directions of Punjab Government.
The teachers and research scholars of the department led by Head of the Department Prof. Sukhjeet K. Ranade made them visit in their computer laboratories explaining them the resources available with the department. They further interacted with the students in the Multimedia Lab to discuss about their queries in their mind in relation to Artificial Intelligence, Computer Programming, Career aspects etc.
During the interaction, they were informed about various e-learning initiatives for School Education by Central and Punjab Govt. Like Swayam Prabha Channels, Diksha, NPTEL IIT-PAL, NCRET e-Books, NCERT e-content developed under NEP, PM E-Vidya, Virtual Labs etc. This knowledge will make them aware about the digital education initiatives and how can they get benefit out of it. School students were also given demo about the World’s first working software for deaf people developed at Research Centre for Technology Development for Differently Abled Persons, Department of Computer Science, Punjabi University Patiala which makes them aware about inclusive education.
They were informed that as there is no system at Public places for making announcements for deaf people, this software will be beneficial for them. Even there is a module in this software to teach school students about Indian Sign Language Basics and basic daily life vocabulary which will be of great use to them. If they learn it, the language barrier between deaf and non-deaf will not be there.
Priyanka, Rama Rani, Sukhdeep Kaur, Bhavneet Kaur, Rupneet Kaur Ph.D. Research Scholars and Jashneet, Jobanpreet, Sahil, Ishant, Munish Mangla, Abdul Latif Faqeeri, students of M.Tech AI&DS of the department played vital role in explaining the school students about the e-learning initiatives by the Government.

Ranade, Head of the department finally addressed the students and thanked all of them for visiting Department of Computer Sc, Punjabi University Patiala. The students and teachers of the visiting school were highly satisfied and happy about the knowledge they have gained from this interaction.
