The 6th Nabha Kabaddi Cup was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at the sports stadium of Government Ripudaman College, Nabha. Organized by Azad Welfare and Sports Club with the support of NRIs and local residents, the event was inaugurated by Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, Tarunpreet Singh Sondh.
In his address, Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh lauded the efforts of Azad Welfare and Sports Club and its president, Jassi Sohianwala, who is also the Chairman of the District Planning Committee. He emphasized that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to engaging youth in sports. Initiatives like Khedan Watan Punjab Dian are part of this vision to nurture talent and provide young athletes with a platform to shine.
“Kabaddi is not just a sport; it is a symbol of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage,” said Minister Sondh. “It connects Punjabis worldwide and gives our youth a distinct identity on the global stage. Events like this provide a much-needed platform for young players to showcase their abilities.”
Jassi Sohianwala thanked the audience and reaffirmed the importance of sports in building a Rangla Punjab. He highlighted that the Nabha Kabaddi Cup is part of the broader mission to encourage youth to take up sports and stay connected to their roots.
Matches in the 65kg, 55kg, and 45kg weight categories were held on the opening day, with competitions for the 75kg category and eight club teams scheduled for tomorrow. Following the prize distribution, popular artists, including Bittu Baljit, Geeta Zaildar, Angrez Ali, Deep Dhillon-Jasmine Jassi, Lakhwinder Ghuman, Chamkour Khattra, and comedian Kulwant Sekhon, will entertain the audience.
Sohianwala urged local residents to attend the matches with their families, supporting the players and fostering a love for sports among children.
