Gurpurab celebrated worldwide, devotees paying obeisance at gurudwaras

Celebrations to mark 550th Gurpurab of the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev – began worldwide on Thursday morning, with devotees visiting gurudwaras since early in the morning to pay obeisance.
Gurudwaras across World were decorated with lights, flowers to celebrate the special occasion.
Amidst singing of hymns and serving of food prepared at langar (community kitchen), every Gurudwara wore a festive look. Langars were also organised by devout along highways for those travelling on Thursday.
Nanak Naam Chardi Kalan, Tere Bhaane Sarbat Da Bhala!” With these words, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday launched the year-long celebrations of the 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, calling upon all people to set aside their religious and political differences to join his government in making the commemorative events memorable.
Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, along with various other prominent Congress leaders, including AICC Secretary Asha Kumari and PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar, were also present on the auspicious occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Manmohan Singh expressed gratitude to Captain Amarinder and his government for giving him the opportunity to be part of this special moment. He expressed the hope that all would rise above the petty considerations of communalism and hatred to celebrate the event in a befitting manner.
