Guru Nanak Dev University awarded ‘Waris Shah Puraskar’ to Padamshree Dr. Surjeet Patar

Commemorating the 300th birth anniversary of Syed Waris Shah’, Guru Nanak Dev University in collaboration with Punjab Art Council, Chandigarh organised “Sadaa-E-Waris: Heer” in the university premises at the Dashmesh Auditorium. The event commenced with melodious singing of the initial phrases of Heer written by Waris Shah.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Dean Student Welfare Prof. Anish Dua, through their welcome address highlighted the outline of the event and acknowledged the worthy presence of invited guests. Jatinder Brar was the chief guest and Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal (Secretory, PAC) was the special guest.
Guru Nanak Dev University awarded ‘Waris Shah Puraskar’ to Padamshree Dr. Surjeet Patar. Dr. Patar narrated his valuable experiences and references of Punjab as a land that has music in its every sphere. Sumail Singh Sidhu ji the Key speaker highlighted and interpreted various aspects of Waris Shah’s Heer.
The event then continued with the singing of popular phrases of ‘Heer: Waris Shah’ by the students of University and affiliated colleges. Magnificent efforts of GND University in general and Dr Anish Dua Dean Student Welfare in particular was lauded by the guests. Prof. Sarabjot Singh Behal, Dean, Academic Affairs congratulated the School of Punjabi Studies, Music Department and Music Club for this great initiative. He also congratulated all the participating teams.
