Guru Nanak Dev University honored its student-artists
Amritsar- Guru Nanak Dev University here today honored its student-artists who won the North Zone Youth festival organized at Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana and Inter-University National Youth Festival, organized at Ranchi in a special event held at Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium. On this occasion, besides the students of the university team, the respective colleges, teachers of colleges, Principal and Dean, Student Welfare were also honored.
Minister of State for Water and Sanitation, Government of India S. S. Ahluwalia was the Chief Guest and the Vice Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu presided over. Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Registrar welcomed the chief guest and others. Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs was also present on this occasion. Dr. Jagjit Kaur, Director Youth Welfare gave details about the achievements of the department.
Recognizing the rich tradition of Indian music and dance, Ahluwalia said that India is a country of Tansen, Baiju Bawra, Meera and Amarpali, and we should take pride in it. He said that today’s music is synthatic and we needed to enjoy the natural music ‘Anhad Naad’. He said that the youth should make efforts to understand the natural music.
While talking about his background, he said that he was from Bengal during the time of partition and was away from the Punjabi language. He said that whatever he learned in punjabi is because of his mother. He said that men and women are the integral part of society and it is beneficial for the community to join them together for the upliftment of society.
During the festivals, the University team won the overall championship trophy, music trophy and fine arts trophies in different items of music, theater, dance, literary and fine arts. Winner student-artists during the festivals were rewarded with cash prizes, medals and certificates. Principal, teachers and University Dean Students’ Welfare Department were also honored. A cultural program was also organized to mark this occasion.
