On the sacred occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Purab, the School of Agriculture Sciences and Engineering (SASE), Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, inaugurated the sowing season in the university’s agricultural fields with a spiritually uplifting Ardaas Samagam.

Embracing the Guru’s eternal message — “Kirat Karo, Naam Japo, Vand Shako” — the ceremony beautifully reflected the harmony of devotion, honest labour, and sharing. Guided by the divine verse “Kirsani kirsan kare loche jio lai…”, the event reminded everyone that the fruits of hard work, rooted in honesty and remembrance of the Divine, nourish both body and spirit.

The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome extended to Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, and Registrar, Dr. Gurinderpal Singh Brar, by the university fraternity. Prof. Jasvir Singh Tiwana, Head of Department, SASE, greeted and introduced the distinguished guests, setting a tone of reverence for the auspicious day. The gathering began with a collective Ardaas, seeking divine blessings for a prosperous harvest, sustainable growth, and the well-being of all. The event was graced by Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, a celebrated horticulturist and recipient of the National Award, State Award, and Chief Minister’s Award in Horticulture.

Bhullar has pioneered several innovative agricultural ventures — from modern AI-controlled kinnow orchards to the Kesar Farm, which he opens to girl students for experiential learning. His expertise also includes pearl farming and spirulina cultivation, reflecting his vision for modern, sustainable agriculture. Recognizing his distinguished contributions, MRSPTU has appointed him as a Member of the Board of Control for SASE, acknowledging his role as a mentor and leader in the field.

In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma paid heartfelt tribute to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, emphasizing the Guru’s divine message of harmony between humanity and nature. Quoting “Pavan Guru, Paani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahat,” he reminded everyone that air, water, and earth are sacred and must be treated with reverence.

He encouraged the adoption of sustainable and innovative agricultural practices, blending scientific knowledge with spiritual wisdom, so that every seed sown becomes a symbol of gratitude to Dharat Mata. Prof. Sharma also inspired students to become entrepreneurs and job creators, aligning with MRSPTU’s vision of eco-conscious learning and community advancement.

Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, in his address, spoke passionately about the future of horticulture, highlighting diversification, saffron, and pearl production as emerging opportunities for agri-entrepreneurship.

The event was graced by several respected members of the MRSPTU fraternity, including Dr. Balwinder Singh (Ex-Director, CDC), Dr. Anupam Kumar (Dean R&D), Dr. Ved Parkash (Associate Professor & Hostel Warden), Dr. Haramritpal Singh (Assistant Director, Training & Placement), Dr. Iqbal Singh Brar (Librarian), Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh (Assistant Professor, SASE), and Dr. Wineet Chawla (Assistant Professor, SASE), whose presence added academic depth and warmth to the celebration.
