“After a long struggle and untiring efforts made by the irrigation department, under the able guidance of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and supported by the district administration, we added another feather in our cap today, when we started the five fountains, with colourful lights, at Rajindra lake, on Mall Road Patiala “said Devinder Singh, superintending engineer of the irrigation department.
Devinder Singh said “earlier we got success in bringing the water through a proper channel and started filling the Rajindra lake, spread in 10 acres of land, in the heart of the city. Today, once again we got another success, by starting the five fountains, in the lake and it will be regular feature. We will discuss the timings to start the fountains, with the district administration and made a schedule accordingly”
Elaborating further, Singh informed that “total five floating fountains were installed in the lake, under three years operation and maintenance pattern . One fountain will throw up the water upto 80 feet in the air , two fountains will throw up the water upto 50 feet in the air and rest two are geyser fountains (small fountains with nozzles). All fountains have 12-15 horse power capacity and they will float in the lake.
He further added that “till now the lake is filled upto four feet of water and we can fill the lake upto six feet, as still 1.5 cusec of water is entering in the lake. Around 22 lac cubic feet of water will enter in the lake, with 5 feet depth. ”
When asked, when it is going to open for public, he said” our (irrigation) work is over. But the work to beautify the surroundings, landscaping is being done by the horticulture, PWD department is still pending. Moreover, it is one of the dream project of the chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and hopefully he will dedicate it to the residents, at the earliest.”
