Health minister to fund treatment for injured labourer from his salary-Sond

Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond visited village Kaidupur in Nabha Block of Patiala Rural constituency to assess the damage caused by a fire that burnt approximately 16 acres of wheat stubble belonging to two farmers on April 26. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav and SDM Nabha Dr. Ismat Vijay Singh also present on the occasion.
During the visit, Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond met farmers Manjeet Singh, whose 14 acres, and Kulwinder Singh, whose 2 acres of wheat stubble were damaged, along with the family of Dayal Singh, a farm labourer from Ajnoda Khurd who was injured in the incident. He assured them that the Punjab Government stands firmly with both farmers and labourers in their times of distress. He further pledged that compensation would be provided for their losses and that medical treatment for the injured labourer would be fully arranged.
Minister Sond informed that Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, who was touring border areas as part of the state’s anti-drug campaign, had briefed him about the incident and asked him to visit the affected families. He stated that the Health Minister has committed to personally bear the full cost of Dayal Singh’s medical treatment from his own salary. Additionally, arrangements would be made to provide fodder for the farmers whose crops were affected.
Speaking to the media, Minister Sond remarked that while such fire incidents can occur naturally, especially during sudden heatwaves, the Punjab Government remains committed to quick and effective response. He appreciated the swift action taken by the local administration and fire brigade, as informed by the farmers, the sarpanch, and the village nambardar, which helped in preventing a larger disaster. He reiterated that the administration remains fully alert to minimize risks and ensure the safety of lives and property.
On the occasion, farmers Manjeet Singh and Kulwinder Singh, along with village nambardar Kuldeep Singh, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for the government’s prompt action. They also appreciated the personal efforts of Cabinet Minister Sond and the Health Minister’s immediate intervention in ensuring the treatment of labourer Dayal Singh.
