Health minister withdraws letter about no free services for emergency during first 24 hours

The Health & Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has ordered immediate withdrawal of the letter issued by the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare to the districts in connection with no free services for emergency medical treatment during first 24 hours and free treatment to girl child of 1-5 years age in the Punjab Government Hospitals.

Giving further details here today, the Civil Surgeon Dr. Harish Malhotra said that the said communication was inadvertently issued without any approval of Government. He said that Health Minister has ordered immediate revocation of the communication.He reiterated that free treatment for girl child in 1-5 year age group and first 24 hours in the emergency were being provided in government hospitals.

Health minister withdraws letter about no free services for emergency during first 24 hours.He informed that free treatment for 1-5 year girl child and first 24 hours in the emergency are being provided in the Government Hospitals and these services shall remain free for the public as before.

Earlier the minister clarified that the said communication was inadvertently issued by the PNDT Division without the government’s approval. He said the matter was brought to his notice and he ordered revocation of the communication.
