Heavy Rainfall in Punjab,warning issued by Met Department

Punjab along with other Northern states  may experience some thundershower starting Saturday till Monday as heavy rainfall is predicted over the next three-four days, say officials of the meteorological department.

According to a MeT official, “Punjab state likely to experience widespread rainfall during late 22nd to 24th September 2018. Many districts in Doaba, Majha, Malwa very likely to get heavy (more than 7-12 cm) to very heavy rainfall (more than 12 cm) during the above period. There is a very high probability of extremely heavy rainfall in northeastern and southeastern parts of Punjab”

The Metrological department has also warned that due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh also,”above spell may cause inundations of low lying area and water logging in some area.”

As per the warning issued by Met department area likely to get very heavy extremely heavy rains are Gurdaspur, jalandhar,Amritsar, Fapurthala, Ludhiana, fatehgarh sahib, Nawanshaher, Roopnagar, Patiala, Mohali and adjoining areas.”

The weatherman says the reason behind this is  “the current low pressure system is very likely to traverse westnorthwestwards across Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh by 22nd September and then re-curve northeastwards across west Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan as a low pressure area during 23rd – 25th September. This might cause an increase in rainfall activity along the foothills of the Himalayas and adjoining plains of northwest India for a period of 3-4 days”

ISOL means Isolated, FWS means Fairly widespread/many places, WS means widespread.

Cumulative rainfall during this period is most likely to remain above normal over northern parts of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and western parts of Uttar Pradesh and near normal over Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
