After streamlining cooperative department, jail department in his first inning, now eyes of Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is on streamlining the  Punjab police department, who,  in his second inning designated as deputy chief minister and home minister.

After assuming the charge as home minister, yesterday he conducted a surprise checking at the Punjab Police Headquarters in Sector-9 here at 9 am. He was accompanied by officiating DGP Punjab Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, ADGP Law and Order Gaurav Yadav, ADGP Provisioning Naresh Arora and ADGP Technical Service Kuldeep Singh.

He found many officers, officials absent. He, while exempting absent officers/officials of any action this time, said that the motive behind this surprise check was to give better, efficient and citizen centric services to the people. The employees in the government offices should reach their workplace on time so as to ensure that people face no hassles in getting their work done in a timely manner especially in the police stations, he added.

Now, as per sources, his next target is to check the officers who play Golf , in office timings. He had reports that senior officers of Punjab police play at Chandigarh Golf Club. He has asked the CID department to keep an eye on the officers who goes to play Golf in official timings, who are playing the game in the morning or evening and make a report.

“As per available information, some officers are usual late comers. They came to office by 10-11 am. Some officer doesn’t come to office after lunch. Some officers play golf in the official timings. So, he is gathering all this information, so that he can take some action against them.” said a source.

He further added that , “he had information that people, officials from all over Punjab came to meet these officers and they feel harassed. He wants to streamline the police department.”
