Hooch tragedy: Election Commission seeks immediate report from Punjab CS and DGP as 20 people die

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday has sought an immediate report from the Punjab Chief Secretary and DGP in the Sangrur hooch tragedy through Punjab CEO.
According to commission’s information, around 20 People had died and 20 people are under treatment in various hospitals in Sangrur and Patiala district.
Punjab CEO had written a letter to Chief Secretary of Punjab and DGP Punjab to send an immediate preliminary report and a detailed report Today regarding the entire event to apprise the commission.
As per available information, as many as 20 people aged between 25 and 70 have died due to the suspected consumption of spurious liquor, also known as hooch, in Punjab’s Sangrur district. Also another 16 patients are under observation.

As the toll has increased in the last two days, the state government finally announced a four-member special investigation team (SIT) led by an additional director general of police-rank officer to probe the case.
