IAS with a difference- Chander Gaind launches ‘Trees for Guns’ drive in Rupnagar

In order to sensitise the people coming to deputy commissioner offices of Rupnagar Division for applying Arms License, Divisional Commissioner, Chander Gaind (additional charge) has made it mandatory to plant atleast 10 saplings before processing his/her application.
While launching the sapling drive under the banner ‘Trees for Guns’ here, today, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sonali Giri, ADC (G) Deepshikha Sharma and other officials, Chander Gaind said that this special campaign has been would be implemented on both the categories of applicants, who whether come to get new arms’ licenses or renew the old licenses. He also said that the saplings should be planted at least 6-8 feet high so that the saplings can grow quickly and it would be mandatory to take selfies with each sapling and to be submitted to the district magistrate to get approval for arm license.
On this occasion, he started the campaign by gifting a sapling to a person who had come to apply for arm’s license. Earlier, he also took over the additional charge of Divisional Commissioner and held a review meeting with the district officials.
Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar, Sonali Giri apprised the divisional commissioner that about 20,000 saplings were being planted by the forest department on the vacant lands along the roads in the district and tree guards were being installed around them to keep them safe.
