IIT Ropar announces its shifting to permanent campus

With a great sense of pleasure and satisfaction, IIT Ropar announces its final shifting to permanent campus with complete administration started operating from M. Visvesvaraya Block. The campus is located at the bank of river Satluj in 500 acres of land. This has marked an important milestone of movement of academic and administrative operations to the institute’s permanent campus. On this, Prof. Sarit K. Das, Director, IIT Ropar, congratulated the staff and wishes good luck for a new start in the permanent campus. He also said, “IIT Ropar has come out of its childhood period, now we are a grown-up IIT, with the world-class infrastructure.” He added that “The magnificent entrance has given a grand look to the campus with 4 huge pillars inscribed with the remains of Harappan Civilization and on the top of that molecular structures showcase the vision of the institute that on a foundation of the great civilization we are teaching modern science and engineering.”

Major academic departments have already shifted namely S. Ramanujan Block (Computer Science and Engineering), J C Bose Block (Electrical Engineering), Satish Dhawan Block (Mechanical Engineering). The entire administration has been shifted to the M Visvesvaraya Block. It comprises of two identical wings connected by a link corridor and is having 4 floors. There are JEE/JAM and GATE offices on the ground floor of the building. It also has a large Senate Hall in the ground floor. The administrative building also houses entire Technology and Business Incubation Center.

The Boys Hostels (3 wings) with a capacity of 960 students and Girls hostels (2 wings) with a total capacity of 260 students are occupied and students have shifted to the Hostels of the permanent campus. The dining hall of 600 capacity is also functional. It comprises two identical wings having independent kitchen facilities and seating arrangements. The Utility block is occupied by the Institute and is used for facilities like-Bank, Post Office, Cafeteria, Juice Bar, Barber/Salon, Stationary/Printing and Departmental Store, etc. The Medical Centre has also started functioning in the Utility Block.

The campus has been developed thereafter in a fine to wellness environment, in the last three years. This could only be possible due to the unique hard work of the Construction Management Group of IIT Ropar and under the charismatic guidance of the Director, IIT Ropar.
