The Annual Cultural fest” Zeitgeist” at IIT   was inaugurated by Prof. Sarit K Das, Director,  IIT Ropar. Addressing the students, Director of Institution emphasized the importance of these events in the life of students. Also, the students of IIT Ropar demonstrated their social commitment even during the cultural fest by organizing dance performance of underprivileged children of the locality, who are pre-schooled by Pehchann –Ek-Safar and NGO under IIT Ropar, and another dance performance by differently-abled children.

The ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a few motivational words by our respected Director, Dean Student Affairs, Faculty Advisor BOCA and other respected dignitaries. It was followed by a graceful Bharatanatyam Performance by Rama Vaidyanathan. A mesmerizing Dandiya Night was organized post-inauguration ceremony.

Winner of India’s Best Stand-up Comedian competition, Zakir Khan reached IIT Ropar and made students, faculty and Staff roll in great grins and laughs. It was the mammoth comedy show to be in relaxation amid professional courses’ tough environment. Using humor expertly and with sharpening of the comedic senses, Zakir also pointed out what is wrong existing in the society. He used popular genres of comedy including satire, lampooning, caricaturing, storytelling and observational comedy.

The  much-revered exponents of the Banaras Gharana of Indian Classical Music Pt. Rajan-Sajan Mishra vowed the students at IIT Ropar with their vocal recitals. Pandit Rajan and Sajan Mishra are accomplished singers of the ‘khyal’ style of Indian classical music. Exponents of the Banaras Gharana of singing, Pandit Rajan and Sajan Mishra have delighted audience all over the world. Their creativity and contribution to the art has won them wide recognition from various quarters, including the much-coveted Padma Bhushan as well as the Sangeet Natak Academy Award.

The major attractions in this edition include Diljit Dosanjh, Sitar Metal, EDM DJ and many more.

This year the theme of the annual cultural fest is “The Gothic Poltergeist”  of IIT Ropar, which is based on Halloween. Zeitgeist is a much-celebrated package of art, culture, expression with an overflow of excitement and energy highlights IIT Ropar’s cultural depth and ignites pride in its heritage and legacy.

It nurtures the defining climate for cultural rejuvenation among the students who are in their formative years of creativity. Interestingly, it is continuously evolving since its inception, in terms of quality. Addition of innovative and diverse events along with broadening of its reach further adds to this evolution. This year’s theme, “A Gothic Poltergeist”, has given an edge of the seat thriller.
