The Dr. Ranbir Singh Tinkerers’ Lab at IIT Ropar successfully hosted the India Hub of the 6th Health Systems Innovation Hackathon, organized by the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL), under the theme “Building High-Value Health Systems: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence.”
The event was guided and supported by a distinguished team of mentors and professionals, including Dr. Dhiraj Kumar Mahajan (Professor In-Charge), Neha Gupta (Healthcare Leader & Patient Experience Specialist), Dr. Brajesh Rawat (Professor In-Charge), Dr. Khushman Kaur Bhullar (HSIL Hackathon Organizing Team), Gurjot Narwal (Founder & CEO, Gini Health), Dr. B.P.S. Parmar (Laparo-Endoscopic Surgeon, Parmar Hospital), Prof. Rajeev Ahuja (Director, IIT Ropar), and Dr. Pushpendra P. Singh (Dean R&D, IIT Ropar).
Six interdisciplinary teams participated, comprising students and professionals from medicine, AI, engineering, and public health. With guidance from mentors across clinical, technical, and entrepreneurial backgrounds, participants tackled real-world challenges such as electronic health record analysis and mental health support to AI-enabled diagnosis, pediatric care, and intelligent healthcare communication systems.
After two days of intense ideation and pitching, Team PiedPiper was declared the winner of the 6th Health Systems Innovation Hackathon 2025. The team—Shubham Mojidra, Prasad Jumare, Satyansh Mittal, and Dhanav Garg—developed HospitalAI, an AI-powered call management system. Their solution transcribes hospital calls in real-time (English and Hindi), uses healthcare-specific NLP to classify queries, and routes them to the appropriate departments—reducing delays, easing staff workload, and improving patient experience.
“By leveraging AI to tackle a critical inefficiency in India’s healthcare system, we aim to enhance accessibility and operational efficiency, delivering measurable impact where it’s needed most,” said Team PiedPiper.
The win secures their place in a focused two-week Bootcamp—a critical phase to refine their pitch and develop their idea further. Following this, a selective HSIL panel will shortlist 20 top-performing teams for an extended bootcamp, offering deeper guidance and strategic mentorship. From there, eight exceptional teams will be selected to participate in a rigorous four-week online HSIL Venture Incubation Program, featuring specialized seminars, interactive workshops, and dedicated one-on-one mentoring.
