IIT Ropar Runs for Change by organizing Quarter Marathon

With the experience from the 2017 Mini Marathon, IIT Ropar today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in a unique way by organizing their flagship event called quarter marathon of 11 kms in cozy-weather on internal road of Ropar with two short sections of flat trails to keep things fun.
Around 400 participants comprising students, faculty and staff participated in this event. The very best of the common scenic Satluj riverside added glamour to the event.
The primary aim of this event was to promote health as a way of life with running as its preferred activity to spread the message of fitness through the simple act of running. Prof. S.K.Das, Director, IIT Ropar said, “It is a matter of great joy and pride for IIT Ropar that since last year we are organizing marathons to promote healthy lifestyle witnessing the participation and involvement of huge crowd of runners consisting of students, faculty and staff.”
The quarter marathon flagged off by Dr. C.C.Reddy, Associate Dean (Student Affairs, IIT Ropar at 6 am from the permanent campus of IIT Ropar and after taking a U turn from the district administration office, the closing point was the main gate of the permanent campus. The event promoted humanitarian values like Swachh Bharat & concept of ‘togetherness’.
Dr. C.C.Reddy, Associate Dean (Student Affairs) said, “We aim to make running and related activities as a way of life. Running is an active meditation. It encompasses mind, body and spirit and makes us better from what we are.” Runners enjoyed the warm and cooling exercises and also the munchies provided after the run.
Prof. Deepak Kashyap, Officiating Director, IIT Ropar distributed prizes to the winners of the marathon. The event ended with the thanks giving by the organizers to the sponsors, Amul India as they provided stamina drinks to the participants and the generous support provided by the volunteers, faculty and staff.
On this occasion, Harjot Kaur SDM Ropar and Harish Kalra, APRO, Ropar were also present.
