IIT Ropar to start programme in ‘Digital Agriculture’

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),Ropar will start a new programmes in ‘Digital Agriculture , disclosed Director, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja while talking to media persons here today.

Prof. Pushpendra Pal Singh, Dean (Operations, Alumni, Placements & Strategy – CAPS) were also present on the occasion.

Prof. Rajeev Ahuja emphasized that “Punjab should lead the nation in innovation , it should become the most innovative state in India.”  He reiterated IIT Ropar’s mission to push boundaries, and advance research, innovation, and indigenous manufacturing.

Prof. Rajeev Ahuja also mentioned how vital it is for India to build its own domestic manufacturing ecosystem, and to become less reliant on imports.

The media interaction featured in-depth discussions on several key initiatives led by the Institute. These included agritech projects focused on developing AI-based solutions for agriculture. In the domain of defence technology, the gathering was briefed on IIT Ropar’s active drone training programs, along with its ambitious plans to expand into drone manufacturing. The Institute also emphasized its commitment to nurturing innovation and creating value for startups, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and other ecosystem stakeholders.

Regarding the broader education context, Prof. Ahuja stated the urgent need for a skilled workforce in the country. He mentioned the success courses of IIT Ropar AI Minor course, which is open for everybody across countries. He also shared about the IIT Ropar BSc-B.Ed. program, which is designed to train passionate and well-trained educators, as part of the process of reversing the ‘accidental teaching’ trend in India.

IIT Ropar to start programmes in ‘Digital Agriculture and Integrated Circuit Design & Technology. He also disclosed  a civil engineering research project involving tantalum metal deposits found near the Satluj River and also about the industry academia collaboration and innovation  at IIT Ropar.
