IIT Ropar took extensive measures to reduce transmission risk regarding COVID-19

With the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, IIT Ropar has also taken measures to reduce transmission risk. IIT Ropar has extended the mid-semester break by suspending the classes till March 31 as well. The official announcement stated public gatherings, conferences, workshops; seminars have also been suspended as a precautionary measure. The following measures have been taken in the wake of spread of novel Coronavirus:

  1. As precautionary measure in the larger interest of the Institute community, students (Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research Scholars) are required to vacate the campus no later than midnight of 18thMarch 2020. Students from high-risk areas such as Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi will be allowed to stay in the campus with special permission.
  1. All Faculty, Staff and Students and residents of the Institute, who are coming from foreign countries, have to quarantine for 14 days in the specially designated Quarantine facility at the Institute and information in this regard shall be furnished to the Office of International Relations for onward submission to local authorities in Rupnagar District.
  1. The Faculty/officers and staff and their family who have visited/come from high-risk states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Kerala after 2ndMarch 2020 are required to get screened at the Medical Centre. Such Faculty/Officers/Staff should work from home upto 14 days from their day of arrival.

Prof. Sarit K Das, Director, IIT Ropar said, “In view of the advisories issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the World Health Organization and Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, to take preventive measures since the eruption of the COVID-19, we have decided to extend the mid-sem break till 31st March 2020. The decision has been taken to preclude any risks to students and their extended families and friends as well as to the faculty and employees of the Institute.”
