It was a joyous morning in IIT Ropar on Thursday. The Director, faculty, staff, students and others gathered at the front lawn of the institute to witness a unique celebration: the unfurling of what is claimed to be the City’s tallest national flag.
The 30×20 ft flag was unfurled by Prof. Sarit K Das, Director, IIT Ropar.
The Director said, “The flag is a testimony to the culture of harmony and togetherness in IITs. We are all proud Indians. We respect the principles of unity and harmony enshrined in the Constitution. India is a country of many faiths and all are equal here.”
The 100ft tall flag post at IIT Ropar is near the historic Harrapan civilization in the city. “The monumental flag will be flown at all times, and will be well-lit at night. It should be seen from the highway afar and remain visible at all times,” Director added.
The flag is made of 100% knitted polyester-reinforced super-strong nylon webbing on all three sides & eyelets.
The project of installation of the national flag was conceived with a view to create a place of pride and honor to the supreme sacrifices made by the brave martyrs and patriotic countrymen that laid the foundation of a free and independent India.
After the director’s address, the programme resonated with colourful cultural presentations.
Tiny tots of the faculty and staff gave a riveting dance performance. After this, the venue reverberated with a soulful performance dished out by IIT Ropar’s Alankaar Club.
