In a first of its kind case an upset Punjab IAS officer resigns

As per reports, in a first of its kind incident a Punjab cadre 2015-batch IAS officer, Karnail Singh has resigned from the post.

 

Presently he is without any posting. As per available information he has taken this extreme step as he was not given any new posting following his removal as the deputy commissioner of Kapurthala on January 30, this year. Sources close to Singh said that he was “upset” at not being allotted work.

 

While Karnail Singh has submitted his resignation to Chief Secretary Anurag Verma. Now, the same has to be approved by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and then cleared by the appointing depatment i.e Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India.

 

As per available information, many bureaucrats including IAS,IPS officers are given no posting orders, after they were removed from their last postings.

 

Karnail Singh was earlier a staff officer to former chief secretary V K Janjua and is due to retire on September 30. His resignation comes at a time when Punjab is facing a dearth of IAS officers and has even written to the Centre seeking more officers.

Earlier last week Punjab cadre IAS officer Parampal Kaur, daughter-in-law of SAD leader Sikandar Singh Maluka, who was tipped to be the BJP candidate from the Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency, had resigned from service. Her resignation too is yet to be accepted.

 

Karnail Singh is the second IAS officer to put in his papers recently. But his case is different from Parampal kaur as he resigns in protest.
