In the election period every leader is trying to nurture the genuine / in genuine demands of electorate. The SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, in the home turf of Chief Minister Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh, urged the Election Commission of India to exempt the Teachers of the Punjabi University Patiala from poll related duties as the university calendar deems these teachers eligible for political participation in the election process, recognising their intellectual freedom for playing an active role in democratic process.

“It would be unfair to tie them down with election duties especially as they are free to take political positions as per the university calendar. As such, they can’t be expected to stay neutral in the electoral process.  That being so, they should be exempted from duties where their democratic freedom of expression and participation would be curtailed,” said Badal urging the EC to consider the Punjabi varsity teachers case in the light of the university conduct rules.
