In the second inning of Varun Sharma as SSP, maiden attempt to smuggle drugs from North-Eastern states foiled by Patiala police

In a first of its kind case, Patiala police have foiled an inter-state nexus of drug peddlers involved in smuggling opium into Punjab from North Eastern state with the arrest of three suspects. The police seized around 16 kg of opium, drug money  from their possession. The opium was found hidden in their car.

SSP Patiala Varun Sharma said “Patiala police is making all out efforts to eradicate the drug menace,under its ongoing ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign and ‘zero tolerance’ policy against peddlers.”

While addressing the media, SSP Patiala Varun Sharma said a team led by Patiala police and counter-intelligence got a tip-off that a Creta car is coming towards Patiala with smuggle contrabands. Acting swiftly, the team led by Gurbans Singh Bains SP (D) and counter intelligence DSP Sagar, inspector Harpreet Singh and other officials of Patiala police laid a naka at Kalwanu, Ghagga where a Creta car bearing registration number DL-4C-AX-2756, was stopped for checking. During the checking of the car, they found a bag with 15. 680 KG of Opium along with Rs 2.30 lacs drug money hidden in the car. The team immediately arrested the three occupants of the car namely Amarjit Singh aged 28-29 years, Harmanjit Singh aged 24-25 years, Harpreet Singh aged 26-27 years. All three are residents of Sunam district Sangrur.”

In the second inning of Varun Sharma as SSP, maiden attempt to smuggle drugs from North-Eastern states foiled by Patiala police . Sharma added that “ a FIR number 41 dated May 12,2025 is registered under section 18,29-61/85 NDPS act at police station Ghagga. We will interrogate them to ascertain as to whom were they supplying the drugs to and where were they getting it from.”
