India –Canada feud takes new turn; expels six diplomats

In a latest development that has erupted between Indian and Canada, India on Monday expelled six Canadian diplomats amid rising diplomatic tensions with Canada.

In a statement, the ministry of external affairs listed the names of Canadian diplomats who have been asked to leave the country by or before 11:59 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross Wheeler, Deputy High Commissioner Patrick Hebert along with first secretaries Marie Catherine Joly, Ian Ross David Trites, Adam James Chuipka and Paula Orjuela are the diplomats expelled by New Delhi.

Earlier ,the Canadian Charge d’Affaires was summoned by Secretary (East) this evening. He was informed that the baseless targeting of the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats and officials in Canada was completely unacceptable.

India –Canada feud takes new turn; expels six diplomats. Before that the MEA announced that it is withdrawing the Indian high commissioner and other diplomats after they were labelled as ‘persons of interest’ by Ottawa in its probe into the killing of pro-Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

In another development news agency Reuters shared that Brigitte Gauvin, Assistant Commissioner, Federal Policing, National Security, Royal Canadian Mounted Police has said  “It (India) is targeting South Asian community but they are specifically targeting pro-Khalistani elements in Canada…What we have seen is, from an RCMP perspective, they use organised crime elements. It has been publically attributed and claimed by one organised crime group in particular – Bishnoi Group…We believe that the group is connected to agents of the Government of India.”
