Indian Medical Association Protest Day – “SAVE THE SAVIOUR”

In accordance with nationwide call given by Indian medical association (IMA) Headquarters New Delhi, All the members of local unit under the banner of Indian Medical Association Patiala joined the protest against the raising incidents of assault on medical professionals and failure of successive central & state governments to take corrective measures.

The doctors wore black badges while on work, demanding immediate check on violence against medical professionals and ransacking of hospitals. All doctors continued to work in order to maintains medical services during this pandemic but displayed banners against violence at work place and wore black badges & masks to make government realize and ensure:

  1. Central hospital & health care professional’s protection act with IPC & CRPC tag.
  2. Standardization & augmentation of security in each hospital.
  3. Hospitals shall be declared as protected zone.
  4. Assault culprits shall be punished under the fast –track mode and stringent punishment shall be given.

“We are deeply hurt to see increasing physical violence on doctors and healthcare professionals. It’s occurring day in and day out. The IMA is pressing for a central act against the violence,” the IMA said in a statement.

Government Medical College, Medical Teachers Association Patiala ,Mata Kaushalya Hospital Patiala and All Government dispensaries  including Model Town & Tripri also displayed banners, wore black badges and joined the protest.

The Health Services Personnel and Clinical Establishment (Prohibition of Violence and Damage to Property) Bill, 2019, which sought to impose a jail term up to 10 years for assaulting on-duty doctors and other healthcare professionals was dismissed by the Home Ministry saying the special law was not feasible as health is a state subject.
