Is dissent amongst RGMC executive members forced management to call unusual EGM?

North India’s prestigious Rajindra Gymkhana and Mahindra Club (RGMC) have once again come into highlight, for internal dissent amongst its elected executive members, which led to calling of an unusual EGM (Extra Ordinary General Meeting) on February 26,2022.

RGMC has elected its new executive through elections on December 30,2021. There are two groups, who fought elections-under the command of Dr Sudhir Verma (Goodwill group) and other group is led by Dr JPS Walia to select twelve executive members, comprising president, vice president, honorary secretary, joint secretary, treasurer and seven executive members.

Dr Sudhir Verma group won the five posts of president, vice president, honorary secretary and two executive members whereas RGMC members elected seven members of Dr JPS Walia group namely joint secretary, treasurer and five executive members.

This had happen after a long time that such a mix executive got elected. So, this has also become a headache for Dr Sudhir Verma led group as they are unable to take key decisions in its executive, due to opposition raised by the other group, from time to time.

“This is after a long time that an unusual EGM has been called, in between the year and that too just less than two months by the elected team. Normally, an AGM is called on the day of elections, not in between, throughout the year. This unusual thing has happen because both the groups are not working on same platform” said an elite club member on the condition of anonymity.

Another member added that “whatever proposal Dr Sudhir Verma and his team brought in the executive, other group opposed the same. This has become a rigorous task for the whole executive to pass, to take timely decision. So that’s why the top management led by Dr Sudhir Verma take decision to call EGM, to clear the proposals, projects in the EGM as EGM is more powerful than executive. If the EGM passes the proposals, projects than the executive has no power to derail those projects.’

Another member admitted that “it’s going to be stormy AGM and it seems that it’s not going to be an  easy task for Dr Sudhir Verma group to got clearance for all the proposals in one go from the members in this unusual EGM.’

Is dissent amongst RGMC executive members forced management to call unusual EGM? .The club management has circulated the agenda of the EGM amongst its members in advance.
