JGND Punjab State Open University organized a one day webinar on 150th years of the National Song “VandeMataram”

The School of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts (SSLA), Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, organized a one day webinar on commemoration of 150 years of the National Song “VandeMataram” on the theme “Revisiting VandeMataram: Meaning, Message and Modern Historical Relevance.” Prof. Rattan Singh, Vice-Chancellor, said, “VandeMatram is a tribute to India’s cultural heritage, symbol of patriotism and collective identity.”

Prof.Arun Bandopadhyay, an eminent historian, was the Keynote Speaker. He discussed the origin of the song in Anandamath, its adoption during the Swadeshi Movement. He said, “Is is a reminder of service and sacrifice for the nation. The national song highlights unity in diversity, written in a mixed language form and sung across communities.”He delved into the evolving interpretations of the National Song in modern times. Event was coordinated by Dr.Parampreet Kaur. Dr.Sukpal Kaur extended the vote of thanks. Students, Faculty & Research Scholars were present during an event. The webinar commenced with rendition of VandeMatram by Dr.Sulakshna Dwivedi, Head, SBMC.
